Part of what I think makes it great is the darkness of the photograph

I am pretty certain the knobs and inlaid details on this one are carved of ivory

and some aging to the wooden base as well

which he was selling off

Largely self-taught and consummately curious

Carved Swan Chair Arms, A Pair vintage ledger book Part of what I thinkI found these hanging side by side on a wall and they just struck me as beautiful things to display that way the long necks of the swans together forming an upside down heart with front sides facing. These were once the arms of a chair, and a fun chair it must have been. I am pretty certain they were hard carved, as there is variation among the faces, and a little surface roughness on the inside of the curves of the necks. My photos of these are not
